- Florence E. Stempel, 77, of 2150 Forestview Rd., a lifelong Evanston resident, died Sept. 10 in Evanston Hospital. Mrs. Stempel, wife of Herbert N. Stempel who died in 1955 is survived by two daughters, Florence Garrison of Evanston and Shirlee Harms of Cresthill; a son, Jim of Wilmette; five grandchildren; four brothers, Merrill McGowan of Chula Vista, Cal., Fred McGowan of Evanston, James McGowan of El Paso, Tex., and Buster McGowan of Hot Springs, Ark.; and five sisters, Dorothy Juckiness and Marie Jackson, both of Evanston, Josephine Ragnar of Chicago, Elinor Charlesworth of El Cajon, Cal., and Eleanor Dekker of Hot Springs.
