- Two murders have shocked Wilmette within the last decade. In January 1939, Dr. Gordon Mordoff, a physician, was shot to death in his office, 1167 Wilmette Avenue, in a dispute over family matters. Otto Freund, 84-year-old retired engraving company official, was brutally slain in his home, 819 Michigan Avenue, late in December, 1946, by two armed robbers. At this writing, police were still looking for the two men.
