- William E. Pettinger, 79, died on Oct. 28 at the Abbington of Glenview, his home for the past five years. Mr. Pettinger was born in Gross Point, now part of Wilmette. He is survived by his wife, Caroline Kirchens Pettinger; and a son and daughter, Thomas (Lenore) of Glenview, and Marjorie (Nicholas) Kaup of Wilmette; and grandchildren Jennifer and Sarah Pettinger and Daniel and Jeffrey Kaup. Also surviving are two brothers, Peter and Walter Pettinger. A funeral Mass was celebrated Nov. 1 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wilmette. Burial was at St. Mary Cemetery in Techny.
