- Frances W. Shaffer died July 31 at Normandy House in Wilmette. She was 94. Mrs. Shaffer was born in Altoona, Iowa. She is survived by a daughter, Jean Braden of Wilmette; a son, Norman B. Jr. of Pittsfield, Mass.; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A graveside service was held Wednesday at the Altoona Cemetery.
