- Mary Elizabeth "Babs" Smith, 87, died Oct. 2, 1992, at her Winnetka home. She was born and raised in Middletown, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward K. Smith in 1965. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy S. (Christopher) Carley of Winnetka and a son, David (Mary Beth) Smith of Pittsburgh, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Clare, Christopher, Beth and Brian Carley; Kelley and Jennifer Smith and Sarah (Peter) Evans.
