- One hundred sailors from the Great Lakes Naval training station were entertained at the Wilmette Country Club, August 11, under the auspices of the War Community Camp of Wilmette. Games were played in the afternoon under direction of Miss Johnson of the Playground department of the Lincoln Park Board, Chicago. Mrs. J. J. Mitchell was in charge. Music provided by the Watkins family who had recently moved to Wilmette from South Dakota since three of the sons had joined the Navy. The family is composed of Mrs. S. P. Watkins, Prentiss and Leland Watkins, Garddner Watkins, Mrs. Gardner Watkins, Mrs. R. A. [Roy A.] Hopkins (nee Myrtle Watkins). Madame Sofia Stephali, opera star, also performed. She is aunt to the Watkins boys.
