Cushman, Roger Herbert

Born in Evanston, IL, January 28, 1920, Roger attended New Trier High School, Class of 1937. He attended Northwestern University where he was awarded a B.S. degree in Economics in June, 1941 and was commissioned an Ensign USNR via the Naval ROTC program. He served on active duty in the US Navy from 1941 to 1946, including service afloat in the North Atlantic and Southwest Pacific, attaining the rank of Lt. Commander. In early 1946 Roger joined the first postwar class at the Harvard Business School and earned an MBA degree in 1947. After a brief period in commercial banking he joined Signode Corporation in Glenview, IL for a 30-year career. His final position was Executive Director and Trustee of the Signode Profit Sharing Trust Fund, during which time he also served as the National Chairman of the Profit Sharing Council of America. Roger was a 35-year member of The Economic Club of Chicago, President of the Glenview Police Pension Fund, Chairman of the Glenview Library Board, attained the rank of Eagle Scout in his youth, and was a Scout Master for many years. He and his wife Elizabeth retired to Savannah, GA in 1984 and were members of the Landings Golf Club. They moved to a retirement community in Irvine, CA in early 2004. Elizabeth predeceased him on November 7, 2009. He is survived by his son David Cushman, daughter Cynthia Cushman, five stepchildren: Steve Sollitt, Sandy Sollitt Noonan, Michael Sollitt, David Sollitt, and Elizabeth Sollitt Lak, seventeen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
