Funeral services for Jacob J. Grauer, 1347 Scott avenue, Hubbard Woods, retired Chicago fire department battalion chief, were held on Monday afternoon in Chicago with burial at Memorial Park cemetery.
Chief Grauer, who retired from active duty at the end of 1917, died at St. Frances hospital in Evanston on Thursday of last week of pneumonia. He would have been 87 years old in May.
He joined the city fire department in 1877 and rose through the ranks to battalion chief in 1909. He was credited with saving 100 lives during his service with the force.
Chief Grauer, who had been a resident of the community since last October, is survived by two sons, George and William and by two daughters, Miss Florence Grauer and Mrs. Florence Grauer and Mrs. Irma Allrich
