Services were held last week in Northbrook for Grant H. Nichols, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kent H. Nichols of 2051 Glendale Av., Northbrook.
Young Nichols was killed Aug. 14 when the car in which he was driving was struck by a falling tree during heavy storms in Minnesota. The youth had been working at the Driftwood Lodge in the Kabetogama Lake region for the summer.
A student at Glenbrook North High School, Grant was an avid conservationist and was selected by the Northbrook Garden Club last year to attend the Youth Conservation Workshop at Southern Illinois University.
The teenager was active in the Izaak Walton League of Des Plaines which honored him post-humously with membership in the chapter and presented his parents with a certificate of reforestation of one acre in the Izaak Walton Plantation at Shawnee National Forest.
He is survived by his parents; a sister, Jane 13; a brother Kent, 8; and a brother Mark, 21; all living at home; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Blessing of Des Plaines and Mrs. Jennie Nichols of Royal Oak, Mich.
Services were held at Grace Lutheran Church. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Skokie.
