Suzanne "Sue" Sutherland Miiller, 84, of Wilmette died Jan. 5. Mrs. Miiller was born Aug. 17, 1923, in Evanston and was raised in Evanston, Wilmette, Kenilworth and Wheaton.
At age 12, she sold the first bag of Girl Scout cookies in Illinois, launching a successful fund-raiser for the Girl Scouts in 1935 that endures today. Together with her mother, Elizabeth Sutherland, she selected Sweet's Tin Shop in Wilmette to make trefoil shaped cookie cutters that were taken to Wilson's Bakery in Wilmette, who promised sugar cookies made with real butter. She married Walter T. Miiller in 1950. They built a house in a farm field in Wilmette in 1953 where they raised two daughters. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Walter "Wally"; her daughters, Suzanne (John) Kilner of Wilmette and Lisa Miiller Timberlake of Marion, Ohio; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Kilner Wickware, Paul Kilner, John Timberlake Jr. and Brittany Timberlake; and her sister Nancy (John) Sampson of Fort Myers, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Elizabeth Sutherland.
