Allison, George Deacon (Died)

The Rev. George Deacon Allison, pastor of the Wilmette Baptist Church for 21 years, died Friday, May 13, at his home 1028 Forest Avenue, Wilmette. He was 64. Dr. Allison, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y. was graduated with honors from Brown University in 1905, and received his divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary in 1908. He also possessed a master's degree in sociology from Columbia University. Before coming to Wilmette in 1928, he served in the Baptist Church at Port Washington, Long Island, was pastor of the Baptist Church in Rutherford, N.J., and of the Second Baptist Church in Wilmington, Del.
He also taught at the Crozier Theological Seminary in Chester, Pa., for two years. He was the third pastor of the Wilmette Baptist Church.
Headed Ministers' Groups
Among his many activites Dr. Allison had been president of the Wilmette Ministers' Association and twice president of the Chicago Baptist Ministers' Association, in which capacity he was very much in demand as a speaker at assemblies and conventions.
For four years he was president of the Baptist State Convention in Delaware. Dr. Allison was chairman of the finance and promotion of the Northern Baptist Convention and served as grand chaplain of the Wilmington Kiwanis Club. He had been active also in the Church Federation of Chicago.
During World War II, Dr. Allison and Dr. Martin H. Bickham, also of Wilmette, took charge of a servicemen's committee which supplemented religious activities at Fort Sheridan, Great Lakes Naval Training Station and other military posts.
Son Lost in War
Dr. Allison is survived by his wife, Alice and one son, Thomas of Park Ridge, Ill. Another son, David R. died in World War II. Other survivors are two sisters, Mrs. E. W. Clarke of Wantagh, Long Island, N. Y. and Mrs. David S. Post of Brooklyn, N.Y.
Services were held on Monday, May 16, at the Wilmette Baptist Church with the Rev. Ralph G. Schell of the Morgan Park Baptist Church of Chicago officiating.- Media Type
