Dr. G. Walter Dittmar, nationally known dental organizer and teacher, died Wednesday, May 18, at the Presbyterian Hospital. He was 77. Services were held Saturday, May 21, in St. Jerome's Church, Chicago, with burial in St. Michael's Cemetery, Galena, Ill. Dr. Dittmar, a native of Jo Daviess County, practiced dentistry in Chicago for 51 years and had offices at 30 North Michigan Avenue. He was professor emeritus of prosthetic dentistry at the University of Illinois college of dentistry. He served his profession as delegate to the International Dental Congress in Paris in 1900, as treasurer of the Odontographic Society, and as president of the Chicago Dental Association, the Chicago Odontological Society, the Illinois Dental Association, and the American Dental Association. He was supreme grand master of Delta Sigma Delta Fraternity, a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, honorary dental fraternity and a fellow in the American College of Dentists. He was a member of Rotary and of the Lake Shore Club in Chicago. He is survived by his wife, Agnes Dooling Dittmar; his children, Mrs. Charlotte Roberson of Wilmette, Mrs. Katherine Allan and Dr. G. Walter Dittmar Jr. of Chicago and five grandchildren, Gale Roberson Jr., Charlie, Peter, and Ellen Kathleen Roberson of Wilmette, and James Allan of Chicago.
