Gardiner, Henry Martin (Died)

Henry Martin Gardiner, who served two terms as a member of the Wilmette Village board and who for the past seven years had lived in Kenilworth, died at the Evanston hospital last Thursday. He was 61 years old. Mr. Gardiner was elected to the Village board in 1906. He was considered one of the more progressive members of the board, and was active in the establishment of a fire limits area and in laying the foundations for the present police department. He advocated the building of a new village hall to replace the frame structure in which the governing body of the village met in those days. The Gardiner family lived in Wilmette for eighteen years. Their residence was at 720 Lake avenue. In Kenilworth Mr. Gardiner was active in the affairs of the Kenilworth Union church. He was formerly president of the board of trustees of the church and was a member of the beard at the time of his death. Mr. Gardiner was in the insurance business. He was a member of the Union League club and of the Skokie Country club. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Maude Gardiner; one daughter Mrs. Kathryn Gardiner Cole of Highlalnd Park; two grandchilden, Barbara and Joanne Cole; a brother, John Gardiner of Chicago, and three sisters, May and Grace Gardiner of Chicago and Mrs. Isabel Wilcox of Brooklyn, N.Y. The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at his late residence, 250 Oxford road, Kenilworth, with Dr. Herbert L. Willett of he Kenilworth Union church officiating.
