Biographical Information Wilmette Resident Died in Military Service World War I

Alfred J. Francesco
U.S. Army, 149th Field Artillery, 1th Infantry, 1st Division

Alfred J. Francesco was the first Wilmette boy to be killed in the World War. He was wounded early in May, but returned shortly to duty and was killed in action late in May 1918.

He was born in Italy in 1897 and came to this country when a young boy, leaving his mother in Italy. He worked in a garage in Wilmette and made his home with the family of Ira W. Sipes, 518 Park Av., Wilmette.

He volunteered in May 1917, hoping to be sent to Italy, and so be able to find his mother.
