Fried, Ernest (Died)

Ernest Fried, 2421 W. Madison street, Chicago, gateman for the Chicago and North Western railroad in Kenilworth, was struck by a north-bound passenger train at 12:20 p. m. last Friday and instantly killed. The accident occurred at the foot crossing opposite the Kenilworth station where a small girl was killed several months ago.
The body of the gateman was impelled or carried approximately 140 feet north of the gate, according to the police record, which states that the blood stains 50 feet north of the gate indicate that the body may have struck the fence before falling to the ground.
The "stop" warning sign used by Fried was found lying on the ground immediately adjacent to and north of the gate, and, according to W. J. Chapman, station agent, his hat was found south of the gate. The remains were taken to Scott's funeral home in Wilmette.
H. Garwood was conductor on the train which struck the watchman, and Charles Watson was the engineer.- Featured Link
