Philip A. Born, 46, of 810 Forest avenue, Wilmette, shot himself with a pistol Monday in the bathroom of his home. His wife, Marian, and a maid heard the shot and found him dead with the gun in his right hand and a wound in his temple.

Mr. Born was founder and president of a wholesale drug company at 152 West Kinzie street, Chicago. Officials of his company stated that he had been suffering from a nervous breakdown for the last few months. Members of his family found no notes explaining Mr. Born's act. His financial affairs were said to be in good order.

A widow and four children survive Mr. Born. The two younger children, Helen and Richard, attend school in Wilmette. Philip, Jr., is a student at New Trier High school and Marian attends Northwestern university.

Funeral services were held at the family residence Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Burial was at Memorial Park.
