Plan memorial services for Lt. A. B. Abeles. 2nd Lt. Alfred B. Abeles, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred T. Abeles of 726 Ninth Street, Wilmette, who was previously listed as missing in action over Germany on January 23, is now reported to have been killed in action at that time, according to a telegram from the War Department received on Friday by his wife, the former Shirley Elling of 610 Fourth street. Lieutenant Abeles was flying a P-38 fighter-bomber for the Ninth Tactical Air force and was based in Belgium. He was shot down by anti-aircraft fire while on a strafing mission to Bonn, Germany. A graduate of New Trier High School, he was in his second year of chemical engineering at Northwestern Technological institute, when he enlisted in the Army Air Forces. In addition to his wife and parents, Lieutenant Abeles is survived by a baby daughter, Susan Gail; and a brother, John Henry. Memorial services will be conducted by the Rev. Ross Cannon at 4 o;clock Sunday afternoon, November 4, in the First Congregational Church of Wilmette.
