SPEEDERS AND OTHERS $125 in fines in one week m mostly people women. in nnes in one Wilmette for speeding, on Sheridan! Eleven fined, nine men and two Doubtless the majority of these offenders were adults. What do older people say about boys and girls when they disobey? Usually something concerning thle wild ways of the younger generation. "What are the young people coming to? When I was young we had to toe the mark, I tell you!" And yet they violate the speed law! Is it forgetfulness ? Is it wil- ^fyl^aegligence? Jt-can!t_ norance of the law, and it is sel dom necessity. It seems to be a mixture. "Why, I didn't know how fast I was going, until I got pinched." It is not uncommon for a father driving his car to tell his jchildren_in-the-back seat4o4oofc back and see if any cops are fol- lowing. Here is a lesson in eth- ics that boys, especially, will learn willingly, the. idea being, it's all right if you don't get caught. A fine lesson in citizen- ship, especially when taught by a father to his son! When shall we learn that we taws tor ottr own bene- fit? That the way torefbfm trie laws that are obnoxious is not to break them but to arouse public opinion against them until it gets -strong enough to repeal those laws? Doubtless, if the majority believed that life and property would not be seriously endanger- ed by a speed of fifty miles an hour on Sheridan Road the limit would be raised to that rate. Let us not make laws and then violate^themrâ€"â€"â€"â€"------â€". PUBLIC SERVICE The editors in a body visited the new rooms of the Public Service Company. xOur principal object in going was to get some- thing for nothing, namely, a very nice incandescent lamp; it was a very pretty orange color and when lit cast a very pleasing golden glow. We got two lamps; two editorsâ€"two lamps. An obliging salesman showed us the ultra-modern clothes- drier, which he believed would be part of the equipment of every up-to-date home in the near fut- ure. We looked into an electric washing machine and automatic water-heater with storage tank, $10 down and $10 a month for quite a while. We strolled back towards the exit, examining as we went a very fine sewing machine, run by electricity, and also some hand- some reading and piano lamps. Our attention was attracted by a complete assortment of electric table fixtures displayed in vertical show cases. We take this occasion to thank the Public Service Company for the two lamps they gave us. If we ever need any more we'll surely patronize the P. S. C. We sincerely congratulate the Public Service Company upon its beautiful Wilmette store and of- fice ! suggest that the big borve the windows would look better in Blue Island or Whiting, than in Wilmette? Some people get all the cream! There's Mr. James Jarmeson Faterson? Look what they re giving him! No use in repeating it all! But they might have giv- en us the trip to Europe, anyhow. We talk and think so much of "residential suburbs," that we come to act as if business in the suburbs was a nuisance. We push the business man off the suburban earth in our desire to keep our homes quiet and beautiful. But we can't get along with- out suburban business. Would I you like to buy all your grocer?.' res, tfry floods, hardware, etc., in Chicago? Be a little easier on the bus- iness man! Realize that he is rendering you a necessary ser- vice! You need him! In your zeal for public parks, think twice before you allow his property to be condemned. When zoning is" under consideration don't do him an injustice by giv- ing him the little end of the deal. Get rid of whatever prejudice you may have and before you act, weijgh carefully the rights of the business man. w/yw///w/^^^ 8 GRACE FORBES SHOP â€"---------SpoTt^Appare; Summer Frocks Making Gowns and Frocks also Room 217 Hoy burn Theatre Bids. 616 Davis St. EVANSTON Telephone 7467 R^MMMMgMftMflMMiMMMMMM^^ PHONE A ^ .EVANSTON , Evanston, 111^ â€" m^ #1 1200 FAMOUS MR MACAROONS & LADY FINGERS ss* HIT tliif (ItllliPK bergi o|§| books||§ loaned-â€"58,975!
