Shanty member of the Wilmette Post of the American Leg- ion and local postmaster has been elected Chef de Train (vice president) Voiture __ 22& La Societe des 40 Hommes et P jChevaux. La Societe it is explained, is funda mentally a playground designed to furn ish relaxation for the hard workers with- in the Legion ranks, and, as such, brings together socially many of tfee leaders of the country. There being but one Locale permitted in a county, La Societe is a great factor in creating, through the social intercourse of its / promenades, a closer bond of comrade- ship an understanding between members of the-various Posts, so necessary to the success of the Legion. The box car of the French railway, with the inscription "40 Hommes et 8 Chevaux," (40 men and 8 horses) is the insignia of La Societe. < : It is an organization having members in every state in the Union and in for- eign countries. Membership is confined to members of the American Legion. There is to be a special program «* music and recitations. BOY SCOUTS ARE OUT s i IN SEARCH OF JCfS :5*aSfi*' â- m C, N.'Stokes, scoutmaster of Troop A - Wilmette Boy Scouts, recently informed his charges that members of the troop who expected to attend the annual troop encampment, must earn their own ex- pense money. - Each scout is pledged to earn $15, the amount necessary to pay one boys expenses at camp. They are not per- mitted to receive the money in the form, of a gift but must do actual work to secure it, and the result is that every member of the troop may be seen busy at work these days doing odd jobs, such as mowing lawns, tending gardens^ tramping errands and other miscellaneJ ous tasks. â- • . â- . . T-*. i J. M. Appel, president of the First National Bank of Wilmette, has prom- ised to help the boys save their camp money. He is providing every scout in the troop with a Savings deposit book with an entry of one dollar credit. The troop has requested Scoutmaster Stokes»to seek jobs for them and Mr. Stokes, in turn, requests The Lake Shore News to ask the householders to save their work for the boys."
