For the benefit of the public who might be interested, we herewith state a few of the details. 'J m-.ip t There Were 154 Boy Scouts who par- ticipated in the different events, and the rally was one of the greatest demonstra- tions ever out on in Wilmette in the in- terest of Scouting. Some 1,200 people, residents of the village, witnessed the competition between the five troops. The knowledge of Scoutcraft displayed by the boys was nothing short of marvel- ous to those who occupied the side lines. It was a disappointment to all that there was not enough time to finish all the contests. As to the standing of the different troops, it looked at the outset as if there would have to be some real figuring to determine the winner. But, after a few events had been run off, it was evident that the real competition was between Troqp 2 and 3, Troop 3 jumped into the lead and retained a slight margin un- til the final event, the progressive stand- ing board jump, when they were only able to take third place, thus giving Troop 2, which now leads with a. two point advantage. The point standing gives* Troop 1, 4 and 5 the third, fourth and fifth places respectively. The showing of Troop 5 was a revela- tion to all concerned, although only a few months old and made up entirely of Junior boys, the spirit and alertness dis- played was not exceeded. The remaining events will be run off Tuesday evening, June 12, beginning at Monday, June 11, will be official Open^S-^ ^^rj* '» .h?PeJ *»* the resi- ing Day arWnew Public-Service com^t^ts witMjnng theirtunches, as the in this fcank, hav* a credit pjy|ftft; dollar added .to their accountsillll^ ; The whole idea is to develop with- in the boy that one point in respons- ibility, namely, saving. And, if pos- sible, to create the desire in each one to earn his $15 required for his ex- penses at camp by the time the troop goes to camp, which is August 11. The entire troop will take an over- night hike to the Forest Preserve at (Jlenview on Friday of this weekftgiS The Skokie Motor company, Elm street, Winnetka, is displaying a beauti- ful model of the Lincoln car in its dis- play rooms. Bersch, Wilmette op- tometrist, has returned from Atlanta, Ga., where he attended the Interna- tional convention of Kiwanis x:lubs. He reports a wonderful time and the biggest and best Kiwanis convention ever held. More than 6,000 Kiwani- ans were registered, ^'ta^.-tf Bert Blow, excavator extraordinary, is making the dirt fly on the new munici- pal playgrounds on 17 street, Wilmette. It won't be long now, Bert says, when the kids will be on their playgrounds. There's a lot of formality about burning a hotel, according to Ralph Ince, who is directing Dorothy Dalton in her new picture* 'The Law of the Lawless." He had a Paris hotel con- structed last week on the lot in the rear of the Long Island studio, and before he could burn it at night for a scene in the picture, it was necessary for him to; notify the New York Fire department which stationed a number of engines at vantage points nearby. Troop 3 Troop 3 is out to win this Rally. We are two points behind Troop 2, which has the lead with 82 points. Remember, there still remain y events. How's this for Troop 3? Due to the window display adver- tising the rally, and a number of con- ferences that our Scoutmaster has had with the president of the First National Bank of Wilmette, our Thrift Campaign, which has been in progress for a few weeks reached a climax when the above mentioned be- came so enthused with the whole scouting program, that he graciously offered to start any boly of our troop not having a savings account, with a deposit of one dollar to his credit.
