DANCE CLASS-No. 5 Sevety-five Wllmette couples en- joyed themselves at the Community Dance Tuesday night in the Stolp school assembly hall. The return of the regular orches- tra, headed by George Arns, met with unequivocal approval. The very lat- est popular "hits" have been added to his repertoire. His method of orchestration, -its vibrant "pep" in the faster music, and its romantic rhythm in the walzes, -made the dance, by unani- mous consent of those present, one of the best ever attended. Everyone present expressed pro- found determination to attend the dance on next Tuesday night. Considerable displeasure has been voiced by members of the committee, on the encroachment of other organi- zations on the day the week care- fully selected- by the committee to avoid conflict with other civic programs. Aged Church Leader Taken ii By Death Friday, Jan. 20 Mrs. Harriet Carman, 81 years of age, well known resident of Wilmette and charter member of the Wilmette Baptist church, passed away Friday, January 2d, at the home of her daugh- ter, Mrs. Frank Simmons, 1040 Ash- land avenue. Funeral services were conducted jointly by the Rev. Francis C. Stifler, pastor of the Wilmette Baptist church and the Rev. Stephen A. Lloyd, pastor of the First Congregational church of Wllmette. Burial was at Davenport, lowa, Mrs. Carman's former home. WISHING HIM WELL Among the New Year greetings re- ceived by Hanford MacNider, com- mander of the American Legion, was a beautifully engraved card which read: "Happy New Year. May you, if you get in jail through sentence affirmed by the United States Supreme Court,,receive from Harding, as did Debs, a pardon and a reception in the White House. Tuesday was chosen after careful deliberation to avoid conflict with churches and other organizations holding weekly meetings.
