THE LAKE SHORE NEWS, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 1921 Wilmeite Lassie Ribbon Clerk Now Before Footlights From selling hairpins and tape to warbling songs on the vaudeville stage at $60 per has been the rapid jump of Elsie Guler, Wilmette girl, one time notions clerk at Rosenberg's Department store, Evanston. Elsie might have lived her life un- sung had not Miss Blanche Van Buren, vocal teacher, started the Ro- senberg chorus last winter. At a free- for-all competition at which 15 Mel- bas appeared with palpitating hearts, Elsie's canary like voice won the four months' free scholarship offered by Miss Van Buren. All last winter Elsie studied the intricacies of the vocal art; she learned how to breath, how to read notes, how to pitch her voice. Tempo, adagio, con expressione became a part of her. Then, she was offered her job back at Rosenberg's and the call of the coin assailed her. She was to have gone back Wednesday. Put again fate stepped into her life. Saturday she was offered a sing- ing role in a Japanese sketch under the direction of the Rogers Produc- ing Company. The sketch has been playing at the American theatre at Ashland and Madison streets, Chi- cago. It will leave tonight for two Weeks in Springfield. Elsie lives with her parents at 412 Gregory avenue. Clerks in Rosenberg's are very- proud of Elsie. Already the stories are flying fast of "I knew her whenâ€"" LONDON TO PARIS VIA PLANE Mrs. John H. Verrall of 523 Maple avenue, who has been traveling with friends in England and Scotland dur- ing recent months, arrived at Paris Saturday last, from London, via air- plane. Miller, of the Newman's, hurled stellar ball allowing but two hits, one v double by Moran which counted-a run. The marring feature of Miller's work was his wildness at certain sia-^e> of the game. He issued a to- tal of five free tickets'. Se\en errors helped materially in losing the game for Newman. SjjFommel, ace of the Pioneer's staff, pitched his customary steady game permitting but six bingles and fan- ning eight opponents. Chicago Lads Wallop Our Pierce Billiards Set Back Local Indoor Aggregation 13 to 1 on Chicago Lot; Play Indian Hill Sunday Pierce Billiards suffered their se- verest setback of the season Sunday, September 18, when they were defeat- ed by St. Michaels L. A. Indoor team of Chicago, 13 to 1. Over-confidence, together with the natural disadvan- tages of the diamond, helped mater- j ially in the Billiard's defeat. Eddie Moore, twirier for the Bil- liards, had difficulty in locating the plate and when he did the slugging crew of St. Michaels held the Billiards to a lone run and four hits, incidental- ly striking out ten. Singles by Lear and Runtz and a double by Hoffman were all the hits the Billiards could garner off the of- ferings of the St. Michaels hurler. On Sunday afternoon, October 2, St. Michaels will visit Wilmette for a return game, at a diamond to be an- nounced later. They are a speedy, well-balanced team, one of the best on the north side of Chicago, and play a clean and sportsmanlike game. "Come out everybody, On October 2, and see a real game," the Billiards advise. ... â-  Next Sunday the Billiards will trav- el to New THer High Schoo where they will meet the Indian Hill Speed Boys, in the first of a series of games. Without strong nerves you lose your magnetism, force and courage. Ycu feel your own weakness and others know that you are weak. Trifling things annoy you - this is a sure sign of nerve exhaustion. , Some people are born with a very small amount of nervo-'ital fluid, be- cause their nerve'force has been squan- dered by the lives lead by their ances- tor*. Others use up their nerve force faster than tit* body can make it. When your nerve force becomes weakened", all the vital orgrans of your body lose tlieir nor- mal strength and vipor and as a result, all kinds of alarming symptoms may appear. From Mie pain* across tlic back, one person thinks he has kidney trouble ; another may think his spine is Injured because of the tender spots whit-limny. ♦CCuf thereon. The dull heavy pain in the lower part of head leads another to think he is goinff to have paresis and from the disagreeable fu I- ness of pressure in the fron I of his head, another feels he is going to die from high blood pressure. Sleeplesiness and nervous irritability, heart pal- pi tat ion and indigestion are very common symp- toms. Naturally your strength, vigor, endur- ance and brain power are al I greatly weakened. and in such a condition you are in no position to compete with the strong, keen red-blooded wan "vith nerves of steel. When you lack nerve lope, there is only one thing that is going to help you -and that is more nerve force. In such cases nere stimulating medicines and narcotic 'drugs are often worse than useless: what yeu must have is something to furnish an increased supply of the nervo-vital fluid to your nerve cells. This is most effectively accomplished by the free useof Nuxated Iron. This valuable piod- uct contains the principal chemical constitu- ent of active living nerve force in a form which most nearly resembles that in the brain and nerve cells of man. It also contains organic iron like the iron in your blood and like th*- iion in spinach, lentils and apples. This for:n of iron will not blacken nor injure the teeth nor upset the stdknach. It is an entirely different thine from metallic iron which people usually t*A«-. Nuxated Iron may therefore be termed both > blood and a nerve food as it feeds strength giving_iron to vnnr hlnnri and the nrinnimt Nruit and II k MTYAl DO M EAT Market PHONE 725/ Next to Rosenberg^ 826 DAVIS STREET PHONE 7340 I v«,»m, RANDOLPH 1 MARKET---------------------------------------- chemical ingredient of actJveJMng_nexve_ior^ to your brain and nerve cells.
