w*mmmm*rmfm<-mmm>*â„¢mmm THE LAKE SHORE NEWS, FRIDAY, JUNE 17, 1921 WILMETTE A. CS DROP ONE TO DUQUESNES . rt». Take Short End of 3 to 2 Count* Van Di.no WhW. Nino Opposing Batters By * Fan Wilmette suffered its second defeat of the season at the hands of the Duquesnes on Sunday in a game that was, hotter San the day. Several times during the ♦orrid affair the home boys threatened I disrupt Jhe matinee with their Jdaeons but each time lightning double Kavs cut down base runners. "Leftv" Van Disne hurling his regular same whiffed nine opposing clouters with his offside hooks and would have fanned several more if the Umps had worn specks in place of a mask. In the Snches "Lefty* was unbeatable and but for a couple of hard chances which were mi splayed in the field would have Interred a winner instead of being on the short end of the 3 to 2 score. Stellar Support "Lefty" McGraw tossing for the Duquesnes was hit ^harder . than Van Disne but his infield was in back of him and with the help of his right fielders who pulled off some robber stunts on Estes and Saunders came trough with another win to his credit. For -Wilmette, Colgrove cracked out a double and a single and cut off some sure bits with sparkling catches in the right uarden. Eddie Braun clouted a couple of one base bingles but to Chuck De Long go the hitting honors. Chuck regained his batting eye which was missing in the early games of the year, and knocked out two singles and a two bagger besides being the recipient of an intentional pass in the ninth, ^ow that the short stop has started to notch the old pellet many a game will go to Wilmette before the snow flies in the fall. Robinson In Game The game last Sunday was speeded up by the presence of "Spikes" Robinson who has returned from school to don the bird cage and pad for his mates of last year. The peppery -receiver has added another year of college base ball to his past experience which combined with his former knowledge, of the na- tional pastime will help his team mates considerably. Mozart* Here Sunday Next Sunday, June 19th, Wilmette will tackle the Mozarts, another strong out- fit from the Intercity League. It will be I another battle of southpaws, Van Disne heaving for Wilmette against Parks of the Mozarts with Robinson receiving, [Van Disne and Johnson doing the honors for Parks. O'Neill, the cocky umpire .who officiated two weeks ago will be [behind the plate. Everybody come out and try_our Jiew_ seats. We hope soon to have a covered stand for the ladies. Crowding Solved Qy Out-door Services St. John', Lutheran Congregation Makes Successful Venture in Children'* Day Service* Cramped conditions in St. John's Lutheran church, an edifice which has become entirely inadequate for the rapidly growing departments of the church, will »ot hamper tti» m^„. ^ the congregation as long as the weather man is kind and provides sunshiny and warm Sabbath days. By way of experiment the church celebrated its annual Children's day in the open air on the church lawns last Sunday and the venture proved so satisfactory as to warrant the church officials planning' for regular Sunday out-door services. 'Flu' Sunday school departments of the church now hold their sessions in the Wilmette Free Public Library. The congregation expects to have a new and modern church edifice in the near fu- ture. ________________ MRS.
