Randolph W. McCandlish, 76, of Vero Beach, Fla., formerly of Wilmette, died Jan. 13 in Florida. A resident of Wilmette from 1928 to 1957, Mr. McCandlish helped found the caucus system for village elections. He was parishioner of St. Augustine's Episcopal Church and served as vestryman, warden, and Sunday school teacher. He also was a member of the Conversation Club, the Masonic Temple, and the American Legion Post and played the bugle in the Legion's Drum and Bugle Corps. Mr. McCandlish served on the Wilmette School Board for several years following World War II. Surviving are his wife, Frances A.; a daughter, Mrs. Frank L. Strand of Mountain Lakes, N. J.; two sons, Charles S. of Waynesboro, Va., and Randolph W. of Wilmette; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Burial was held in Vero Beach.
