Klinka, Nancy E. 78, passed away peacefully Monday, January 16, 2012, at Fair Oaks Nursing Home in Crystal Lake. She was born September 17, 1933, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to James and Irma (Werner) Smith. She grew up in Milwaukee, WI and later earned her Master of Library Science degree at Rosary College while raising her three children in Glenview. She served as Director of the Learning Resource Center at Maine North High School and then as librarian at Palatine High School until retirement in 1998. Nancy was active on several boards of the American Library Association. She loved family time, reading, world travel, cultural events, walks in the woods, conversations with her dear friends, and Frango mints too. She contributed generously to worthy causes and helped others in many ways. Nancy was known for her courage, compassion, style, and great sense of humor. She is survived by her three children Lori (Ken) Calzavara, Sheri (Ken) Bland, and Todd Klinka; two grandchildren Joy and Kenneth J. "K.J." Bland; and several other relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents. A memorial service will be at 2 pm on Saturday, February 4, at Glenview Community Church, 1000 Elm St., Glenview. Memorials may be given in her name to the Leweybody Association or to the Women's Assn of Glenview Community Church for a tree to be planted in her honor.
