Brown Gives Argument On Annexation
Lake Shore News (Wilmette, Illinois), 27 Mar 1913, p. 3

Media Type:
Item Type:
Two important questions will be decided at Evanston's elections on April 1. One is the annexation of territory south of Crain St. and west of Florence Ave. so the city can remove "blind pigs" i.e. speakeasies. Evanston citizens have been trying to "clean up" these businesses via the Evanston Municipal Association and other means. Evanston citizens support annexation for addition reasons including ability to obtain street car service and construction of new buildings which will increase the amount of tax the city can collect. Annexation would also give Evanston access to the sanitary canal. Adoption of the Mueller law will also be on the April 1 ballots.
