Science Night

Central School Science Night will be held from 5:30-8 p.m. Oct. 21. This year Science Night has been designed to tie in with the school’s new science curriculum. Students and their families can build a terrarium with the Chicago Botanic Garden, see a live insect show by the Peggy Notebaert Museum and do lots of hands-on experiments, including one with Skittles! Parent/Teacher Conference Registration

Online registration for Parent/Teacher Conferences will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday and will close at 5 p.m. Nov. 3. The link to the P/T Conference Schedule can be found at the District 39 website www.wilmette39.org. Conferences will take place Nov. 10 and Nov. 11.

Book Fair

The Central School Annual Book Fair, “Wild About Reading!” will be held from noon-4 p.m. Oct. 24; and from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 25-27 in the school’s small gym. Anderson’s Books will once again provide a wide selection of wonderful books for all ages. Additionally, Family Night will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Oct. 26 from so there will be plenty of opportunities to shop. Teacher “Wish Lists” will be available. Participants may shop for the holidays while helping to raise funds for Central School, and pay no sales tax.

Orquestra de Samba

A live performance by Orquestra de Samba will take place at 7 p.m. Nov. 4 in the Central School Auditorium. Winner of the 2008 International Brazilian Press Award for “Outstanding Incentive for Brazilian Music in the United States,” this is an interactive 10-piece dance and instrumental ensemble.

Art Awareness

Parents can take the opportunity to be an art teacher for one day in their children’s classroom the week of Nov. 1-7. The theme is European Renaissance, with a hands-on project of creating an individual coat of arms. A training session will be held Oct. 19 (morning or evening available) no prior art experience necessary.
