Hohfeler, Nancy Walker Born September 27, 1926, passed gracefully into her new chapter on September 21, 2011. Much beloved by her biological and spiritual families, Nancy amazed us all in life and in her transition through the body's final breath into her soul's new freedom. Actively living her life until weeks before her death, Nancy is survived by her two sisters (Joyce Free and Fay Watkins), four children and their spouses (Candace and David Chorjel, Rick Hohfeler and Holly Audley, Jay and Beth Hohfeler, Joyce and Bob Maze), three grandchildren (Molly, Maggie, and Kate Hohfeler), and a church family of many spiritual brothers and sisters, sons and daughters. She graduated from New Trier High School in 1944, attended Northwestern University for two years before marrying Richard Hohfeler, Jr. in 1949. Nancy joined the Winnetka Presbyterian Church in February 1958 during its beginning phases, and has been an integral part of its many chapters for the next 53 years during the tenure of seven senior pastors. She served multiple terms as an Elder of the church, and led as the Clerk of the Session for 12 years before recently retiring. She has sung in the choir, expressed herself in liturgical dance, and has led many Bible Study groups. During this time she also served on the Board of Christian Laity of Chicago, was Director of the Institute for Small Group Development, and recently utilized her skills to reintroduce and revitalize small groups in her church community. In her mid-50's she returned to college and earned her B.A. at National College in Applied Behavioral Sciences. She went on to work in the Public Relations Department at National College, assist in the Commissioning of the USS Chicago, and led for 12 years as the Executive Director of the University of Chicago's Brain Research Foundation. A memorial service was celebrated for Nancy at the Winnetka Presbyterian Church on September 27, 2011. She and her family welcome donations in her name to the Winnetka Presbyterian Church, 1255 Willow Road, Winnetka, IL 60093. Phone: 847-446-7777. E-mail: office@winnpres.org
