Circle, Lilias Wagner Of Evanston passed on Sunday, August 28 at the King Home. Born on April 26, 1928, she grew up in Ann Arbor, MI. She was an Interlochen camper and counselor and later served on Interlochen's Alumni Board. Mrs. Circle graduated from the University of Michigan in 1951, married, and moved to Billings, MT. She moved to the North Shore in 1959, where she lived the rest of her life. Mrs. Circle's career as a writer and musician was far-reaching. She was a long-time violist with the Evanston Symphony, National Secretary of Pi Kappa Lambda music honorary society, and founder and longtime producer (1965-2005) of the Savoyaires, a group that performs Gilbert & Sullivan operettas in Evanston. Her writing included program notes, artists' profiles, and book chapters, including for the Chicago Symphony, Symphony II, and the Lyric Opera. She was also a member of the choir at St. David's Episcopal Church in Glenview and later St. Augustine's Episcopal Church in Wilmette. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 40 years, T. Robert Circle. She is survived by 6 children - Lilias Jones Jarding of Rapid City, SD, Jane Circle Asmuth of Princeton, NJ, Robert G. Jones of Springfield, MO, Thomas R. Circle of Wheeling, IL, Eric D. Jones of Boynton Beach, FL., and Phillip T. Circle of Eau Claire, WI, 14 grandchildren, and her brother, Herbert Wagner of Howell, MI. Her many contributions to music in Chicago are only overshadowed by her legacy to family and many loving friends.
