Hartley, Mary Noelle Age 90, died July 26, 2011 in Tarboro, North Carolina. She was born in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England on July 22, 1921 to Barron William Earnest Hartley and Ann Elizabeth Stevens. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Bill. Noelle studied nursing at St. Thomas's Hospital in London during World War II and was awarded the Nightingale Fellowship. She came to the United States in 1955, lived with her Knode and Greeley relatives, and worked at Evanston Hospital. Noelle was a member and served on the Altar Guild and rector's search committee of Christ Church of Winnetka, Illinois. She was a member of the Infant Welfare Society, Funds and Gains, the Winnetka Fortnightly Club, Chicago Botanic Garden Women's Board, the Winnetka Garden Club, and the Garden Club of America. Left to cherish her memory are cousins Patricia Knode Herriott, Betsy Knode Newton, Oliver Morton Knode III, Christopher Berry Slocum, Peter Joseph Conrad, Elizabeth Conrad Billings, John Stevens Cate, Margaret Stevens, their families and beloved friends near and far. A memorial service will be held October 8, 2011 at Christ Church, Winnetka, Illinois. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association , P.O. Box 96011, Washington DC 20090-6011.
