Muller, Robert E. Formerly of Wilmette and Winnetka, passed away in Fort Myers, Florida, March 20, 2011, at the age of 89. Dr. Muller was born June 27, 1921, in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from high school at 15. He received his Master's degree from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute at 20, and later, his doctorate in chemical engineering. During the war, he worked on the Manhattan Project, developing the atomic bomb. He married Ruth in 1949. As director of research for U.S. Gypsum, he patented gypsum wallboard. Later, he created an artificial sweetener from licorice root and started Astron Dental Corporation to develop vinyl denture materials. He and Ruth moved to Florida in 1998. Ruth passed away in 2005. Bob is survived by his children Bob, Karen, Tom, and Doug, fifteen grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 26, 2p.m. at Winnetka Bible Church.
