Recently released community population data from the 2010 U.S. Census show Wilmette's population declined between 2000 and 2010 by 564 people, or 2.04 percent, from 27,651 to 27,087. In Kenilworth the population grew less than 1 percent, or 19 people, from 2,494 to 2,513. The demographic look of both communities remained nearly identical over the decade. In 2000 89.66 percent of Wilmette's community was identified as white. Last year's figures indicate a slight drop in that category to 85.46. The village's Asian population rose slightly from 8.16 percent to 10.77 percent in 2010. Other category changes were Hispanic from 2.08 to 3.33 percent and African American from .56 to .79 percent. Kenilworth's population remained overwhelmingly white at 97.41 percent compared with 97.27 percent in the 2000 Census.
