More than 1,500 people came out Wednesday at a Republican mass meeting Wednesday in Evanston to hear James E. Watson discuss the charge of stolen delegates. However, he was forced to cancel due to illness, instead James A. Patten, chairman of the Republican club of Evanston, announced that John M. Thurston, United States senator from Nebraska, and Garrit J. Diekema, congressman from the Holland, Michigan district, would speak in his stead. This was in support of the re-election of President Taft.
