Republican Robert Dold, who won the seat for the 10th Congressional District, and Democcrat Dan Seals together spent almost $5.7 million on their campaigns. Spending by ideological groups, business associations, party committees and unions on the race totaled more than $3.2 million for a total of more than $9.1 million during the election cycle by and on behalf of the two candidates.
