Review of significant events for Wilmette in 2010. Worthy of mention are plans devised by the Lakota Group, for the Wilmette Village Center, with a drawing from the Sept. 16 draft of the master plan. Residents defeated the referendum for the renovation of New Trier High School. A high profile race for the 10th Congressional seat ended in the election of Bob Dold, Republican, over Dan Seals, the Democratic candidate. Photograph of Bob Dold. Wilmette Junior High School won its second Blue Ribbon award from the U.S.Department of Education. Photograph of a classroom at Wilmette Junior High School. Wilmette District 39 says its $17.5 million cash reserve will be used up by 2013. Avoca School District 37 voters agreed to a higher tax rate. A construction moratorium is in place in the Village Center to allow time for the Lakota Group to complete its plan. The Village disallowed the plans of one developer, Wilmette Village Center LLC, to proceed with building a CVS drugstore with a drive-through at 611 Green Bay Road. Brooks Kellogg, involved in the project, was arrested in Denver and charged in a murder-for-hire plot. Andrew Grene was killed in Haiti's deadly earthquake in January. Description of various ordinances passed during the year including the village's involvement in attempts to reform state law governing how communities must finance pension plans for police and fire employees. Erin Hughes, age 19, of Wilmette pleaded guilty in August to a hit-and-run accident involving serious injury Sarah Goone, age 16.
