Dr. S.R. Cloninger, a long-time Wilmette resident who recently moved to Reno, Nevada, died there July 26. He was 49. Dr. Cloninger was born and raised in Bozeman, Montana. He graduated from Northwestern University Medical School in 1954 and took his residency in radiology also at Northwestern five years later. He subsequently joined the staff of Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago serving as a general radiologist and radiotherapist. He was president of the medical staff there from 1970 until 1972. Dr. Cloninger was active in local and national medical and radiological organizations. He served as counselor from Illinois to the American College of Radiology and counselor of the Chicago Medical Society. He was also president of the Chicago Radiological Society. For health reasons, Dr. Cloninger moved to Reno in 1975 where he was active in the Radiology Dept. at the Veterans hospital there. He is survived by his wife, Gloria, two sons, Jeffrey and Mark, two brothers John R. and Louis and a sister Ida Laue. Mass was held Friday in Reno at Our Lady of the Snows Church. Burial was in Bozeman, Montana.
