A memorial service for Dr. J. Roscoe Miller, Northwestern University President, 1949 to 1969 and chancellor, 1969 to 1974, was held Wednesday in Alice Millar Chapel. Dr. Miller died Sunday after suffering a heart attack in his home at 2870 Sheridan Pl. Oct 26 would have been his 72d birthday. Dr. Miller, who used the initial J. instead of his first name James and was known on the campus as "Rocky," was born in Murray, Utah. Dr. Miller was married for 49 years to Berenice. He is survived by his wife, a son, Dr. J. Randall Miller of San Diego, Cal.; two daughters, Roxelyn Pepper of Barrington and Jacquelyn James of Wilmette; and 13 grandchildren.
