"One Book, One Central," reading project, promotes reading nonfiction and writing skills throughout the rest of the year. Principal Melanie Goffen Horowitz says it also promotes community-building in the school. All students will read "Owen and Mzee: The True Story of a Remarkable Friendship," by Craig Hatkoff and Peter Greste, about the friendship formed between an orphaned baby hippopotamus and a 130-year-old Aldabra tortoise.
