John W. Melone, 914 Forest Avenue, an assistant general freight agent of the Baltimore and Ohio railroad, died at his home late Thursday night, October 24. Mr. Melone was 61 years old and had been in the service of the railroad for forty-five years. He was retired last June.

Mr. Melone came to Wilmette from Toledo, Ohio, nine years ago when he was transferred to the Chicago office of the Baltimore and Ohio. He was a member of the Wilmette Presbyterian church, the Masonic lodge and the Traffic club of Chicago.

Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Helen Melone, and two daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Melone Schlundt of Navarre, Ohio, and Mildred, a student at the National Kindergarten and Elementary college.

The Rev. Clyde Wheeland, of Wilmette Presbyterian church officiated at the funeral services which were held at that church Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Burial was at Norwich, Ohio, Mr. Melone’s birthplace. The Rev. Theodore Schlundt, a son-in-law, conducted the services in Ohio.
