Wilmette Life (Wilmette, Illinois), 9 Aug 1929, p. 24

Full Text

Lloyd Kingsley, 16 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. George C. Kingsley, 529 Cumnor road, Kenilworth, was drowned Thursday afternoon, August 1, when a high wave swept him from a pier at the Kenilworth bathing beach into the lake. His body was recovered by Evanston coast guardsmen Sunday morning a mile south of the Wilmette breakwater.

At the time of the tragedy Lloyd was at the beach with three playmates—his brother James, Perry Shortridge, and Richard Joslin. Young Shortridge, who was sitting on the pier with Lloyd, was also knocked into the lake by the high wave, but he clung to the pier. The heavy undertow carried the Kingsley boy out.

Lloyd is survived by his parents and two brothers, George and James. The funeral services were held Monday afternoon, August 5, at 2:30 o’clock at Scott’s funeral home, 1109 Central avenue, Wilmette. The body was taken to Geneseo, N. Y., for burial.
