Frank C. Howorka, of 2308 Isabella street, Evanston, and president of the LaSalle Photo Engraving company, Chicago, sustained injuries when alighting from a North Western train, in Wilmette, Friday evening of last week, from which he died shortly afterwards.
According to evidence introduced before the coroner’s jury, at the undertaking parlors of F E. Lewis, 1120 Central avenue, Wilmette, Monday morning, Mr. Howorka’s death was purely accidental.
He came out from the city on the train arriving in Wilmette a few minutes after 6 o’clock. It was a ninecoach train and Mr. Howorka was seen standing on the rear steps of the last coach, as the train began pulling out of the station. As the coach approached a point approximately opposite the north end of the depot, and after it had gained considerable headway, Mr. Howorka jumped off.
In falling, he sustained a cut on the forehead and a blow in the back of the head from which he was rendered unconscious. He was at once rushed to the Evanston hospital in the Wilmette police ambulance, but did not regain consciousness.
Mr. Howorka was 49 years old. He is survived by his widow, two sons, Herbert, residing on Leland avenue, Chicago and Frank, at home, and one daughter, Christine, also at home. Two brothers and two sisters also survive, William, Earnest and Clara, all of Chicago and Bertha, of Los Angeles, Cal.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, from the residence. Burial was at Oakridge cemetery.
