Rev. David C. Monroe, a former missionary in India who more recently has been living at the home of his son, Eric A. Monroe, 1220 Forest avenue, passed away Sunday, August 10 following a lingering illness. Services will be held today at Graceland chapel.

Mr. Monroe was a missionary in India for 25 years and later was rector of an Episcopal parish in Connecticut for 10 years. He was forced to retire from the active ministry about 18 months ago because of failing health and underwent an operation at Rochester, Minn. Since that time he had made his home in Wilmette. Shortly after coming to the village he suffered a stroke of paralysis which left him virtually an invalid to the time of his death.

Mr. Monroe is survived by three sons, Eric A., and Alan H., of Wilmette, and Rev. C. H. Monroe of Shahjahanpur, India; by a brother, Dr. Charles P. Monro of De Ruyter, N. Y., and a sister, Mrs. Jane Riggs of Dolgeville, N. Y.
