Fred Uhlmann, 3 Pomander walk, Glencoe, died Monday in St. Luke's hospital, following an operation. He was 74 years old. A native of Bavaria, Mr. Uhlmann came to the United States when he was 24 years old and entered the employ of a grain firm. In 1923 he founded the Uhlmann Grain company, now an international organization with branches in American and European cities. Formerly a director and vice-president of the Chicago Board of Trade, other financial interests included directorships of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas railroad and the American National bank. Mr. Uhlmann, who had been a resident of Glencoe for many years, had recently been living at the Hotel Ambassador East in the city. He is survived by his widow, Hattie; by a daughter, Mrs. Alice Uhlmann Benjamin, 951 Forest avenue Glencoe; and by a son, Richard, 1431 Oakmont road, Highland Park. Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning at the Rosehill cemetery chapel.
