Maurice Taussig, pioneer in the profession of store interior designing, died Sunday night at his home, 1000 Chestnut avenue, Wilmette. Mr. Taussig was born in Bohemia January 1, 1863, where he learned the trade of cabinet making. He came to the United States in 1879, settling in New York City. There, while working at his trade, he made himself proficient in the designing of interior work as a student at Cooper Union institute. In 1883 Mr. Taussig came to Chicago. While superintendent of one of the large factories there he saw the possibilities in the field of store planning and designing. In 1888 Mr. Taussig married Julia Gach, a native of his own country. Soon after his marriage he took up the work of his chosen field, in which he became the first and foremost exponent. While conducting his business as an individual, and subsequently while the senior member of the firm of Taussig and Flesch, which he organized in 1909, Mr Taussig was engaged in the planning and designing of many of the foremost department and specialty stores in the United States and Canada. Upon his retirement from active business in 1929, the corporation of Taussig-Flesch and Associates was formed, with main offices at 506 S. Wabash avenue, Chicago, and branch offices at 11 W. Forty-second street, New York City. Mr. Taussig was a lover of the arts, being a connoisseur of oil paintings, ivories, etchings and the finer woodworing crafts. Besides his widow, he is survived by four sons and three daughters. The funeral services were held from the residence at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, with burial at Mount Isaiah cemetery.
