GUNMEN KILL WILMETTE MAN; Adolphe J. DuMont Fatally Wounded When Attacked Here Tuesday Morning: Adolphe J. DuMont 2008 Central avenue, Wilmette, who was shot in the left arm at about 1:10 o'clock Tuesday morning at Main street and Wilmette avenue by three armed men who forced his car to the curb there, died in the Evanston hospital at about 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. DuMont, whose relatives declare he was in the real estate business, insisted he had no enemies and said the men had made no efforts to rob him. According to police reports he had connections with a roadhouse in Morton Grove. He was taken to the Evanston hospital. - Halted on Ridge Road - According to DuMont's story the three men first accosted him on Ridge road at Memorial Park cemetery. They blocked the road with their car, he said, but he drove around them by going into the ditch. When he reached the Wilmette avenue-Ridge road intersection DuMont said he decided it would be better to go east on Wilmette than west to his home, which is in a dimly lighted section west of Ridge road. As he fled in his car several shots were fired at him, he said, and one of the bullets pierced the rear of the car on the left side. At Wilmette avenue and Main street his car was forced to the curb. According to witnesses, his pursuers called to DuMont to come into their car, but instead he started running. He was collared by two of the three men chasing him and shot in the left arm. The gunmen's car then sped across the North Western tracks, south on East Railroad avenue to Linden avenue, back across the tracks on Linden and on west. - Three Witness Shooting - Witnesses of the shooting were: Bert Woods, 235 Central Park avenue, Wilmette; Howard Wilson, 1315 Madison avenue, Evanston, and L. W. Seaborg, 1124 Darrow avenue, Evanston. DuMont is survived by his widow and three children. He was 44 years old. Last October he leased the place at 2008 Central avenue where he had been living.
