Mrs. Mary E. Tanshill [sic], 1601 Tenth street. Wilmette, passed away on Monday at the age of 89 years. The widow of R. W. Tansill, pioneer business man of Chicago, who was engaged in the cigar business and who preceded her in death by exactly 34 years to the day, was born in Circleville, Ohio. Following their marriage, her husband opened a store in Chicago which was destroyed by the fire of 1871. Later Mr. and Mrs. Tansill moved to New Mexico where they founded the town of Eddy, now known as Carlsbad, on the Pecos river. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at the chapel of Graceland cemetery. She was survived by a son, Robert, with whom she had made her home, and by three grandchildren.
