Juan de Llaveria, 39, arrived in New York on his way to Paris, where he will go to claim $160,000 offered by Baron de Rothschild in 1900 for the first man to walk around the world in thirteen years. He started in July 1900 from Paris in company with Jaime Constantino of Italy and Julie Jartnes, an Austrian. Constantino and Jartnes died during the attempt.
