Walter A. Leonard, a teacher at New Trier High School will serve the U.S. as consul in Stavanger, Norway. He was notified of his appointment on Mon. Leonard had served as a consul before. He was born in 1880 in Essex, Ia. He recieved a B.A. from the University of Nebraska, then went to graduate school. He attended Northwestern University, the University of Wisconsin and the University of Chicago. He was in charge of the business department at New Trier. From 1907 to 1908 he was a vice-consul in Germany. Prior to his latest appoinment, he studied for two years. He was 1 of the 22 who passed the exam for consular service. Leonard will be in Washington Oct. 1. When his credentials are prepared, he will sail to Norway.
