Members of the Second Baptist Church of Evanston, Colored [sic.], have completed plans for $30,000 edifice on the site of the present church building, just north of Church street on Benson avenue. The former pastor, the Rev. B. E. V. Gales, was against the venture and finally resigned. The new pastor is the Rev. Isaac Thomas of Macon, Ga. Rev. James Madison Stifler, pastor of the First Baptist church helped close the breach between those who did not want the church built and those who did. The members of the official board of the church are: J. H. Blackwell, J. T. Gordon, J. R. Butler, Albert Carter, D. W. Richarson, A. Robinson, J. W. Riceton, W. H. Dickson and J. W. Pope.
