- The fourth grade met with Jamie Gilson. Wilmette's vechildren's author came to Central April 7 to talk to the fourth grade about the ins and outs of book writing and publishing.
Earth Week wraps up today and tomorrow. Today, Earth Day, students are encouraged to wear green, blue, or brown to celebrate the colors of the earth. The fourth grade students will take a special field trip to see the movie "Oceans" then head back to Wilmette for the trout release into Lake Michigan and school grounds clean-up.
Friday, the last day of Earth Week, is a waste free lunch day and rain date for tree planting.
Recycling containers will be available in the lobby all week and the rest of the year to collect all ink jet cartridges, toners, cell phones, video/audio tapes, batteries, iPods and MP3 players, PDAs and Palm Pilots, chargers, floppy disks, and CDs/DVDs no longer in use.
Registration is underway for 2010-2011 kindergarten classes.
An orientation meeting for parents of incoming Central kindergarten students will take place from 6:30-7:30 p.m. April 22 at Central.
Fourth grade bike safety training will take place Wednesday.
Second grade students will be treated to American Eagle Production's performance of "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" April 29.
Principal Melanie Horowitz will host Book Banter in the Central School library from 7-9 p.m. April 29. The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wrobleski will be discussed.
Girls entering first grade in the fall who interested in joining Girl Scouts may contact Chris Bewley.
Lunchroom volunteers are needed for May/June (a combined two month period).
The Central School Store has openings for parent volunteers. Interested volunteers should contact Nancy Hoying.
The Yearbook Committee would like to remind the Central community that yearbooks are still available for purchase
People can honor a teacher with a Certificate of Appreciation from the District 39 Education Foundation. Donations may be made in any amount and the school will hand deliver a certificate to the honoree during the first week of May.
